月舘年配茶会 ・ Senior Tea Party in Tsukidate

As Date City’s Coordinator for International Relations, I spend every Wednesday in the town of Tsukidate.

伊達市の国際交流員として、毎週の水曜日は月舘町で過ごします。 

Though I generally stay at Tsukidate Academy, one day this month I enjoyed a splendid afternoon tea party with senior citizens at the Tsukidate Central Exchange Hall.

だいたい月舘学園におりますが、今月のある日に月舘中央交流館でお年寄りと午後のお茶会を楽しみました。

While sipping on chilled barley tea, I answered questions about myself and the job of a Coordinator for International Relations, and listened to stories about the days of Tsukidate past.

冷やした麦茶を飲みながら、自分や国際交流員の仕事に関する質問に答え、昔の月舘についての話を聞きました。

We were all treated to delicious sweets.

皆さんと美味しいお菓子を頂きました。

After eating, we enjoyed an English-language game.

食べた後にみんなで英語のゲームを楽しみました。

As befits Tsukidate, their seniors excel at English.

さすがに月舘町、年配の方は英語が上手です。

We all had a good time, and they kindly invited me to join them every week.

皆さんと楽しい時間を過ごし、僕を毎週のお茶会に招いてくださいました。

Although my other duties prevent me from attending weekly, I look forward to joining their tea party again someday!

僕は他の仕事があるので毎週は参加できないと思いますが、再び参加できる日を楽しみにしております!

Akasaka-no-Sato Forest Park ・ 赤坂の里森林公園

During a recently rare rainless afternoon, I enjoyed Hobara Town’s Akasaka-no-Sato Forest Park.

最近の珍しく雨が降っていなかった午後、保原町の赤坂の里森林公園を楽しみました。

A tape-cutting ceremony in August featured the new administration building, which has made the park that much more spectacular.

8月に披露式があった新しい管理棟のおかげで、この公園がより素晴らしくなりました。

The park not only offers sites for camping, but also many hiking trails.

キャンプ場だけではなく、登山道もたくさんあります。

Hoping to soak in the forest ambiance, I entered the deep forest.

僕は森林浴がしたくて、深い森に入りました。

My destination was an observation platform.

目的地は展望台でした。

After numerous encounters with spider webs along the empty trails, the observation platform finally came into view.

閑散としていた登山道で数々のクモの巣と出会ってのちに、展望台が見えてきました。

The view of the Date Region was definitely worth the hike.

伊達地方の眺めはその登山に相当しました。

On my way down back to the center of the park, I walked past the children’s sledding slope.

公園の中心までの下り道に、ちびっ子ゲレンデのそばを歩きました。

It is constructed in such a way that it can be used year-round, without snow.

雪が無くても一年中使えるように作られていました。

(Note that the park is closed from December through March. That is a good time to sled on snowy slopes elsewhere!)

(注:12月~3月末は閉園です。本物の雪がある坂でそりを乗る時期です!)

There is more for children to do than just ride sleds.

こどもの遊びはそりに乗る事だけではありません。

There is also a full set of athletically-oriented outdoor play equipment.

フィールドアスレチックも完全に揃っています。

Though the equipment is designed for children, I couldn’t help but try it.

フィールドアスレチックは子ども向きですが、楽しそうだったので僕も使ってみずにいられませんでした。 

Before I left, I went on one last hike.

公園から帰る前に、もう一回散歩しました。

My map showed a shrine atop a hill, so I ventured back into the forest to find it.

地図では丘の頂点にある神社が見たので、見つけるために森に再び入りました。

I must admit, what I found was smaller than what I had expected.

見つけた神社が期待した大きさより小さかったと認めます。

I also went to another observation platform, though the view was a little disappointing this time.

他の見晴台にも行きましたが、今回の眺めは思わしくなかったです。

Yet overall, I was impressed by the park.

しかし全体として公園は僕の印象に残りました。

While we are all looking for opportunities to spend time as a family while avoiding the “Three Cs”, why not visit this park in Hobara?

三つの密を避けながら家族で時間を過ごす機会を探している皆さん、この保原町にある公園に来てみてはどうですか?
