English Conversation Course at Tsukidate Academy’s School Community Center・月舘学園SCセンターの英会話講座

From May 19th to June 23rd, English conversation classes are being held nearly every Wednesday at Tsukidate Academy’s School Community Center.
5月19日(水曜日)から6月23日(水曜日)まで、ほぼ毎週水曜日に月舘学園のスクールコミュニティーセンターで英会話講座を行っています。

Participant numbers have been limited in light of the current novel coronavirus pandemic, but an enjoyable time was had with the three participants who came for the first session.
新型コロナ感染症を考慮して、参加者の人数が限定されていますが、第1回目は3人が参加し、楽しい時間を過ごしました。

We began with self-introductions.
まずは、自己紹介で始まりました。

It was interesting to hear about the interests and hobbies of Tsukidate residents.
月舘住民の興味や趣味を聞くのが面白かったです。

From there, conversation progressed to various topics ranging from fish names to culinary techniques.
それから、魚の名前から料理方法までの様々な話題で会話が進みました。

Though I have often taught English conversation as a Coordinator for International Relations, classes have always been held at the Date City Hall’s Main Office in Hobara.
僕は国際交流員として英会話をよく教えていますが、講座がいつも伊達市役所の保原本庁で開催されています。

Teaching in Tsukidate has been fun, and I would like to continue teaching English conversation in many localities throughout Date City.
月舘で教えるが楽しくて、伊達市内のさらにたくさんの地域で教えたいと思います。

It is planned that English conversation classes will be held at locations other than the city hall during this fiscal year, so be sure to come by and converse with me then!
今年度は市役所以外の場所でも英会話講座を行う予定なので、その時は是非、会話しに来てください!

 Yanagawa's Utopia, YANA-Pia ・ 梁川のユートピア、やなピア

On a recent rainy Friday, I entered Date City Hall’s Yanagawa Branch Office.
雨が降っていた最近の金曜日、伊達市役所の梁川総合支所に入りました。

Shortly thereafter, with jazz playing softly in the background, I flipped through the pages of an English-language book that I’d picked up off a shelf.
ほどなく、ジャズ音楽がそっと流れている所で、本棚から取った英書をめくりました。

It was as relaxing as any moment I’ve spent in a Japanese café; and I was able to experience such a café-like moment of relaxation within Date City Hall’s Yanagawa Branch Office.
僕は日本の喫茶店で過ごしたどの時間でものんびりできました。そして、この日訪れた伊達市役所の梁川総合支所のとある場所でも、喫茶店と同じくらいのんびり過ごすことができました。

That’s because I was enjoying its newly-opened multi-use space, “YANA-pia”.
なぜなら、梁川総合支所に新しく公開されたオープンスペース「やなピア」にいたからです。

It is on the second floor of the branch office.
やなピアは総合支所の二階にあります。

Don’t forget to take off your shoes before entering YANA-pia!
やなピアに入る前は、靴を脱ぐ事を忘れずに!

Once your shoes are put away, you are free to enter a utopia.
靴を脱ぎ、そろえてから、ユートピアへどうぞ。

There are numerous books, many of which are in English.
本がたくさんあり、英語で書かれた本もたくさんあります。

There are also many spaces for studying.
学習できる所もたくさんあります。

Thankfully, there are ample electrical outlets for recharging mobile electronic devices.
幸い、持ってきた電子機器の充電ができるコンセントも多いです。

At the end of the room there is a “cultural exchange space”, complete with a projector.
部屋の奥に「交流スペース」があり、プロジェクターもあります。

It is the perfect setting for cultural events, such as foreign-language classes.
外国語講座等の文化事業にもぴったりです。

Maybe it was the day’s rainy weather, but I enjoyed the warm and cozy atmosphere of YANA-pia so much, that I suspect I will often visit it in my free time.
その日の雨の影響だったかもしれませんが、やなピアの落ち着いた雰囲気が大好きになり、これから僕は休暇の際に度々行くと思います。

A utopia may be impossible to find, but YANA-pia can be found directly outside Abukuma Kyūkō Line’s Yanagawa Station.
本当のユートピアは見つけられないでしょうが、やなピアは阿武隈急行線の梁川駅を出てすぐに見つけられます。
