Nukada's Little Lane of Hydrangeas・糠田のあじさい小径

Late in June, a Tsukidate native kindly gave me a guided tour of the Nukada neighborhood’s Little Lane of Hydrangeas.
6月下旬、月舘出身者に糠田のあじさい小径を案内して頂きました。

It is an hydrangea-lined road that climbs up towards Mt. Megami.
アジサイが並んでいて、女神山へ登る道です。

At one point, there is a small park filled with – what else? – hydrangeas.
途中、小さな公園があり、予想道りアジサイがたくさんあります。

Two years ago, I went to Yanagawa Town’s Yamafunyū​ district, and was impressed by the hills covered with beautiful blue hydrangeas. 
2年前、梁川町の山舟生地域に行って、山々で青くて美しいあじさいに感動しました。
I was told that Nukada’s hydrangeas differ in that they bloom in a wide range of beautiful colors. 
糠田のアジサイはまた違って、多くのきれいな色で咲くと教えて頂きました。

There are also many lacecap hydrangeas.
ガクアジサイもたくさんあります。

My tour took place before the hydrangeas reached full bloom.
僕の見学はアジサイが満開になる前に行われました。
Hopefully, the flowers will be even more magnificent in time for the Little Lane of Hydrangeas Festival to be held this year on the weekend of July 3rd and 4th.
今年7月3日㊏と4日㊐に開かれるあじさい小径まつりに間に合うように、より立派になると良いと思います。

Enjoyable English at Kakeda Kids’ Club・かけだ児童クラブで楽しい英語

Early this month, I taught English while playing with the children at Kakeda Kids’ Club, an afterschool facility near Kakeda Elementary school in Ryōzen Town.
今月上旬、霊山町の掛田小学校の近くにあるかけだ児童クラブで、児童達と遊びながら英語を教えました。

It was such an important event, that TV crews were also present.
テレビ取材班が来たほど大事な行事でした。

As an introduction, I had children make guesses about me through a true-or-false game.
自己紹介として、○×ゲームで児童達に僕について推測してもらいました。

I then introduced Oni-sensei.
そして、鬼先生を紹介しました。

Facility staff kindly wrote the names of the most delicious children in the menu of Oni-sensei’s favorite café.
鬼先生の大好きな喫茶店の献立に、施設の職員は最も美味しそうな児童達の名前を書いてくれました。

One by one, the children used English to Tell Oni-sensei their names, and he checked them against the menu.
児童達は一人ずつ名前を英語で鬼先生に教えて、鬼先生は献立に確認しました。

Those children listed had to escape to the safety of a nearby wall, lest they became Oni-sensei’s dinner.
名前が書かれた児童達は鬼先生の夕ご飯にならないよう、近くの壁まで逃げなければなりませんでした。

Not surprisingly, all of the children escaped. 
予想通り、児童は全員無事に逃げました。
Ryōzen’s children are very fast.
霊山の子ども達は足が速いのです。

At the end, I gave the children coloring sheets and wordsearches as a reward for their valiant efforts.
最後に、一生懸命遊んでくれた皆さんへのご褒美として、塗り絵と単語探しプリントを配りました。

The children were quickly able to find the words.
児童達は単語を素早く見つける事が出来ました。

This was my first visit to an after-school center as a Coordinator for International Relations. 
今回の児童クラブへの訪問は国際交流員として初めてでした。
It was a lot of fun, and I hope to do this regularly!
とても楽しくて、定期的にやりたいと思います!
