Combined Emergency Response Drill ・ 四消防本部合同訓練

In late September, I was involved in a multi-bus accident.
9月下旬にバス事故に遭いました。

Thankfully, it wasn't a real accident.
幸い、本当の事故ではありませんでした。

I was participating in a multi-brigade emergency response drill in Kawamata Town, south of Date City. 
僕は伊達市の南にある川俣町で行われた、複数の消防署による合同緊急対応訓練に参加していました。

Four fire brigades from across Fukushima Prefecture worked together to rehearse a situation where two coach buses had collided, resulting in a large number of casualties.
福島県内の4つの消防本部が協力して行われたこの訓練では、2台の観光バスがぶつかって、大人数の被害者ができた場面を練習しました。

According to the scenario description, I had sustained a head injury and was unable to walk. 
場面の概要によると、僕は頭部外傷ができて、歩けなくなっていました。

As such, I needed to be carried out of the bus.
その外傷により、バスを降りるのには運んでもらう必要がありました。

It took many firefighters to complete the task.
その使命を果たすために多くの消防士の助けが必要でした。

I think, at least four.
少なくとも4人の助けがあったと思います。

However, I was not asked to participate merely to provide weight training.
しかしながら、筋トレを提供するためだけに呼ばれたわけでありません。

I was tasked with creating a need for multilingual emergency response.
消防士が外国語での緊急対応を練習するために参加しました。

My first task was calling 119 to report the accident from within a bus.
最初の役目は、バス内からの119番への連絡でした。

As I spoke only English, I was connected to a translation service. 
僕は英語しか話さなかったので、通訳者に繋げてもらいました。

Later, the firefighters used a smartphone application to communicate with me.
その後、現場の消防士は僕と話せるようにスマホのアプリを使用しました。

Admittedly, it was fun to be obstinate in refusing to speak Japanese. 
実は、日本語でしゃべる事を頑固に断るのは楽しかったです。

The firefighters may have faced sore muscles over the days following the drill, but I'm certain that their enhanced communicative abilities will last throughout their careers!
消防士の方は訓練後の何日間かは筋肉痛があったかもしれませんが、高めたコミュニケーション能力は記憶にずっと残るでしょう!

Date-Made Cider ・ 伊達産りんご酒

The Date region is filled with apples, which are delicious when eaten fresh. 
伊達地方はりんごがたくさんあり、生で食べるととっても美味しいです。

Now I can enjoy Date’s apples in their finest form – fermented!
ですが、今伊達のりんごを最も美味しく頂けるのは発酵した状態です!

In recent years, cider has become increasingly popular. 
近年、りんご酒はより人気になっています。

This year, three farmers in Date City grew the apples that have become this cider. 
今年、伊達市の三人の農家さんはこのりんご酒になったりんごを育てました。

I was able to visit one of the farmers, together with a promoter of the cider-making project.
りんご酒作りの一主催者と一緒に、一人の農家さんに訪問できました。

They were kind enough to give me a bottle of their CocoNo Cider, as well as a bottle of the juice from which it came.
彼らにりんご酒「ココノシードル」、そしてその原料になった果汁をそれぞれ一本ずつ頂きました。

On a following day off, I went to Café & Brewery UWAMACHI CHEERS in the neighboring town of Koori; where I was kindly granted special permission to try the juice and cider I had brought, while enjoying the exceptional atmosphere of their establishment.
その後、休みの日に、隣の桑折町にある上町CHEERS(うわまち・チアーズ)という飲食店の素敵な雰囲気を楽しみながら、僕が持ち込んでいたそのりんご酒と果汁を特別にその場で飲ませて頂きました。

I first tried the apple juice.
まず果汁を飲んでみました。​

Without a doubt, it was the best apple juice I’ve had in my life.
間違いなく、人生最良のりんごジュースでした。

 Simply put, it was very, very yummy!
単純に言えば、とてもとても美味しかったです!

Then I tried the cider.
そして、りんご酒を飲んでみました

I had the exceptional experience of comparing the juice with the resultant cider. 
りんご酒と原料の果汁を比べる事ができて、特別な経験でした。

I am very glad that I was able to try cider made from Date apples.
伊達産のりんごからできたりんご酒の飲酒ができて、とっても嬉しかったです。

I look forward to drinking Date-made cider in the years to come!
これからも、伊達産のりんご酒を飲むのが楽しみです!
