Remote English Conversation Course ・ 遠隔英会話講座

In late November, Lara and I taught English conversation.
11月下旬に、ララと僕は英会話を教えました。

Until then, all English conversation courses had been taught in person, and generally in the Silk Hall of the Date City Hall's Hobara Main Office.
その時まで、英語講座はすべて対面授業で、ほぼ伊達市役所保原本庁で行われました。

In order to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus, and to allow city residents to participate regardless of their location, the English courses in November went digital.
新型コロナ感染症の対策として、そして市民が所在関係なく参加できるように、11月の英語講座はDXになりました。

The courses began with self-introductions, and then Lara introduced herself, as a special surprise guest.
講座は自己紹介で始め、そしてララは不意打ちのスペシャルゲストとして自身の紹介をしてくれました。

We then employed the same grammatical forms to play a guessing game, using famous people in Japanese society.
その後、自己紹介と同じ文法形式と日本社会の有名人を利用した推測ゲームをしました。

Though I had little experience teaching classes online, with Lara's help the classes were a resounding success.
僕は遠隔授業の実経験は少なかったのですが、ララのおかげで今回の英語講座は大成功でした。

The next English conversation courses will be special productions for each of the five former towns, and are planned to be held from February to March. Look forward to them!
次回の英語講座は2月から3月にかけて開催予定で、旧5町単位の出張版を開催します。詳細は市政だより2月号でお知らせしますので、お楽しみに！

Introducing the New CIR: Lara Justice ・ 新しい国際交流員ララ・ジャスティスの紹介

Hello! My name is Lara Justice. Because my last name is Justice, a lot of people say my name sounds like a super hero’s! What do you think?​

初めまして！ララ・ジャスティスと申します。英語で「ジャスティス」は正義という意味なのでスーパーヒーローみたいな名前だとよく言われます。どう思いますか？

（My dog Rico! 私の犬、リコです！）

I’m from the state of Tennessee in the USA. I majored in Japanese and psychology in university. After graduating in 2020, I was accepted into the JET Program and supposed to come to Japan, but because of the COVID-19 pandemic, I could not come until this year. I’m so happy I finally made it!!! 

アメリカのテネシー州から参りました。大学で日本語と心理学、二つの専門でした。2020年に大学を卒業しジェットプログラムに受けられる、日本へ来るはずでしたが、新型コロナウイルスの影響で延期され今年まで来られなくなりました。やっと来られて嬉しいです！！！

As of November, I started working as a Coordinator of International Relations at Date’s City Hall. After my 2 week quarantine ended in Tokyo, I came to Date City and met the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and Superintendent, among other important people who work at City Hall. I am sure I seemed very tired and my Japanese was flawed, but I received a warm welcome regardless. It touched my heart and made me more excited to work here! I am happy to say that Date City Hall is full of wonderful people.

11月から市役所で国際交流員として活動し始めました。東京での2週間の隔離が終わってから直ぐ伊達市に来て、市長、副市長、と教育長など市役所の偉い方々と会えました。日本語でのミスが多く、疲れた顔も関わらず皆さんは大歓迎で受けてくれました。本当に琴線に触れ、「これからもっと頑張りたい！」と思わせました。喜びで発言できますが、伊達市役所は素敵な方々ばかりです！

There are many things I don’t know, and I still can’t speak Japanese how I wish, but I hope to learn from those around me and improve quickly! Date City is teeming with history, and the few residents I’ve met have been very kind. I hope to get to understand this town and its wonderful people more. Please say “Hello!” to me if you see me around town.  

I am looking forward to my time here!

まだ分からない所が多く、単語数が足りないため思うように日本語も使いませんが、周りにいる方々から学んで上達したいと思います。伊達市は歴史が深く、今まで会えた数人の町の方々も親切でした。これから住民も伊達市も親しくなりたいと思います。
良かったらを歩いているとき私を見たら、ぜひ声をかけてください！​​
