February's English Experience ・ 2月の英語体験

The February English Experience was the last of the academic year given for the City’s five-year-olds.
2月の英語体験は今年度最後の5歳児の英語体験でした。

So we began with our last performance of Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes.
そのため、頭・肩・膝・爪先の歌と踊りの最終公演から始めました。

We continued with Simon Says and its “boss level,” featuring the infamous Oni-sensei. 
続いては「船長さんの命令ゲーム」で、ボスキャラの鬼先生も登場しました。

As usual, this ended with a few brave children deciding the fate of their seated friends.
いつも通り、最後に立っている数人の勇ましい子ども達が座っているお友達の運命を決めました。

And as always, they chose to allow their friends to stand up. 
そしてやっぱり、お友達を助ける選択をしてくれました。

In the next activity of Zookeeper Says, the children both flew like a bird…
次の活動は「動物園長さんの命令ゲーム」で、子ども達は鳥のように飛び・・・

… and stood like a flamingo.
そして、フラミンゴのように立ちました。

For a full ten seconds!
なんと、10秒間も!

After singing Bingo and reading the month’s storybook, it was time for the game.
「ビンゴ」の歌と絵本の読み聞かせの後、ゲームの時間になりました。

The first step was forming two teams, that of boys and that of girls.
はじめに、子ども達を2つのチームに分けました。

Such a division helped me differentiate the voices of the teams, for soon every child would be shouting at me.
少し間隔をあけて、各チームの声を聞き分けやすくしました。子ども達は答えがわかったら僕に叫んでもらいます。

I began to draw a famous character.
まず僕は、有名なキャラクターを描き始めました。

The children were to shout the character’s name.
子ども達はキャラクターが分かったらその名前を言うことになっていました。

But there was a hitch: the name had to be said as part of the phrase, “My name is ~”.
しかし、簡単ではありませんでした。なぜならキャラクターの名前を英文の「My name is ~」(「私の名前は~」)の後に言わなければならなかったからです。

The first team to name the character in this way received a point.
この方法で最初にキャラクターの名前を言ったチームは1点をもらいました。

This was repeated for another nine pictures or so, when the points were tallied to decide the winning team.
合計10枚の絵で勝負し、点数を集計し、勝ったチームを決めました。

Yet whether their team won or not, all the children received presents; as shall all of my readers, through the link below.

The next month’s English experience was the last of the year, but the first ever for the children participating.
翌月の英語体験は今年度の最後でしたが、参加していた子ども達としては初めての英語体験でした。

Apparently they had spent nearly two years looking forward to the day; I won’t keep you waiting nearly as long for the coverage!
約二年間、英語体験の参加を楽しみにしていたそうです。でも、読者の皆さんのことはそんなに待たせません！
