Trivia Night・トリビアナイト

On a sultry June evening, the hottest exchange event in Date City was held.
6月の暑い金曜日の夕方、伊達市の最もアツい！交流行事が開催されました。

For the fourth time!
なんと4回目になります!

Since last year, Date City’s Civic Collaboration Department has hosted “Trivia Night” events, aimed at encouraging interaction between city residents and foreign nationals.
昨年から、市民と外国人との交流を振興する目的で、伊達市協働まちづくり課 は「トリビアナイト」という行事を開催しています。

Lara plans the event, creates the content, and plays the role of MC. 
ララさんは行事の企画と内容を作成し、MCの役も務めます。

One of her first tasks during each event is explaining the rules to the members of the teams, many of whom have just met each other for the first time.
ララさんは毎回最初に、ルールを説明します。その説明を聞く同じチームになった参加者の多くは初対面です。

Then come the trivia questions.
そして、トリビアの問題がはじまります。

From science and history, to pop culture and local lore, the questions are apt to rack the brains of even the most cosmopolitan of contestants. 
科学や歴史、ポップカルチャーや地域の知識など、問題の内容はどんなに世界をよく知っている方でも大変です。

Thankfully, the residents of Date City are a treasure trove of knowledge.
幸い、伊達市民は知識の宝庫です。

As for your correspondent, my duties include checking answers sheets and tending to the scoreboard.
そして僕の任務は、といえば、答案の採点とスコアボードの更新です。

Both involve basic arithmetic, which casts doubt upon my suitability for such tasks; but under the watchful eye of our kind supervisor, none of my grave errors are allowed to see the light of day.
簡単な算数が必要なので、僕の適正には疑問が生じますが、僕達の優しい監督が目を光らしていますので、僕の間違いが日の目を見ることはありません。

At the end of the last round the correct answers are provided, while the final scores are frantically calculated.
最後のラウンドの後、問題の正解が示されている間に、最終スコアをシャカリキに計算します。

At long last, those scores are confirmed, and announced with great fanfare.
ついにその最終スコアが確認されて、大々的に発表されます。

And to members of the winning team are offered the juice of the world’s finest peaches, among other extravagant gifts.
そして勝者には世界一の美味しい桃のジュースなどの立派な賞品が進呈されます。

Yet the greatest prize is undoubtedly the international and multi-generational exchange that took place during the event.
しかし、最も大切な褒美はきっと、行事中に行われた国際的、かつ世代間の交流でしょう。
