Getting to Know the Community Through English・英語を通して市民との交流

In September, I participated in our English classes for the Japanese citizens of Date City. As I had just arrived in Date City, Lara was in charge of preparing the presentation. The theme this time was describing a person's personality and physical appearance-a great way to introduce and incorporate me into the lesson. We both briefly introduced a family member, Lara introduced her mother and I introduced my father. We also encouraged the participants to do the same and received lovely short presentations about their parents, siblings and children from them.
9月に初めて英語講座に参加させていただきました。伊達市に着いたばかりだったのでララが英語講座の準備をしました。今回のテーマは人の性格や外見の説明に使える言葉、新人の僕を紹介するのにとてもふさわしいテーマだと思います。それに、家族の一人を紹介しました。ララは自分のお母さん、僕は自分のお父さんを紹介しました。参加者にも自分の子供、兄弟、親などの素敵な紹介をしていただきました。​

In addition, Lara and I created a homemade version of a very popular board game in America that I have fond memories of playing as a child. The board game is called Guess Who? and is a game where you and a partner both choose a character card, and take turns asking yes or no questions to try and figure out which character they chose. Our version made out of cardboard and paper isn’t quite as easy to use as the original, but I still hope the participants were able to enjoy learning English with a classic board game.  
さらに、ララと一緒にアメリカで大人気の、子供の時によく遊んでいたボードゲームを僕たちで手作りしました。このボードゲームは「Guess Who?」というゲームで、キャラクターカードを引いて、対戦相手の質問に「はい」「いいえ」で答えられる質問をしていき、相手の答えをもとにして、相手のキャラクターを推理するゲームです。段ボールで作ったものなので、本来のゲームと比べて少しやりにくいところもあると思いますが、それでもアメリカのクラシックボードゲームを楽しみながら、英語を学んでいただければ嬉しいと思います。​

As I mentioned before, Lara handled creating the PowerPoint and was the main presenter for this class, but going forward that role will be shifted to me. But worry not, because Lara will often accompany me in future classes. I look forward to sharing my evenings with those who choose to spend their time at our English classes and am excited to get to know each of you more throughout my time as a Date City CIR. 
前述したとおり、今回はララがプレゼンテーションを作って、進行してくれましたが、次回からは僕がその役割を担います。基本的にはララが一緒なので、今までのように英語講座を楽しく提供できるかと思います。これからも英語講座に参加する皆さんと仲良くなって、貴重な時間を過ごすことを楽しみにしています。
