Christmas Stamp Rally・クリスマススタンプラリー

Christmas is a huge holiday for many Americans, including both Cameron and I (Lara), as our families hold it dear to their hearts. Both of us ended up unable to go back home for the holidays, but we made sure Date had plenty of festivities for us to join in on instead!
私たちの家族も心から大切にするクリスマスは、私とキャメロンを含めて、多くのアメリカ人にとって、大事な祝日です。私たちは、今年アメリカに帰れませんでしたが、代わりに伊達市でクリスマスを味わえるたくさんのイベントを楽しむことにしました！

Every Wednesday, I am at Tsukidate Academy all day. Cameron joins when his responsibilities allow (usually at least once a month). 
私は、月舘学園に毎水曜日に行き、丸一日います。キャメロンは余裕がある時に大体、月に一回行きます。  

There we teach the 1st and 2nd graders English, and occasionally join the Tsukidate ALT, Greg, for the 4th graders’ English class. 
そこで小学校1・2年生に英語を教え、時々、ALT（外国語指導助手）のグレッグ先生が担当する4年生の英語の授業に参加しています。

All of the kids worked very hard this year, so I thought they deserved a chance to see their own English progress and get a reward. 
生徒たちは今年もとても勉強を頑張りましたので、自分がどこまで成長したか確認し、ご褒美をもらうべきだと思いました。

As such, we hosted the first ever Tsukidate English Stamp Rally!
そこで、初めての『月舘イングリッシュ・スタンプラリー』を開催しました！ 

Participation was simple. Each student was given a stamp rally sheet crafted by yours truly.
参加するのは簡単です。私が作成したオリジナルのスタンプラリー用紙を、生徒一人ひとりに配布します。 

Students were given instruction to come up to any of the native English teachers (Cameron, Greg, or me) in their free time so we could ask them a question in English. 
生徒たちには、休み時間、英語が母国語の先生（キャメロン、グレッグ先生と私）のところにくるように指示して、私たちからの質問に英語で答えてもらいます。

The questions ranged from “what’s your name?” to “what is your favorite food” and more! We adjusted the question difficulty based on their grade level and confidence.
質問は“what’s your name?（お名前は？）”や“what is your favorite food（一番好きな食べ物は？）”などです。生徒たちの学年とそれぞれの生徒の英語の自信度によって、質問の難しさを調整しました。

The students received a stamp for every answer they gave in English. After collecting 5 stamps, they were given 3 different gifts; a sticker modeled after a stamp from another country, a bookmark inspired by old-fashioned American illustrations, and a large sticker inspired by a location in America. Each of these items varied by design, so the students were able to choose whichever caught their fancy. 
生徒たちは、英語で答えるたびに、ひとつスタンプを受け取ります。5つのスタンプを集めたら、外国の切手をイメージしたシール、古き良きアメリカのイラストのしおりと、アメリカの様々な場所をイメージした大きなシールの3種類の景品をプレゼントしました。各景品は多種多様なデザインがありましたので、生徒たちはそれぞれ気に入ったデザインを選ぶことができました。

Our other Christmas ventures this month included the yearly Christmas event at Family Park Date. This year, Cameron made his debut as Santa!
このクリスマスのイベントの他に、ファミリーパークだてで、毎年恒例のクリスマスをテーマにした遊びをしました。今年はキャメロンがサンタさんとしてデビュー！

 
We taught the children Christmas-related words, played games, and read one of my favorite books as a child, Spot’s First Christmas. The children were rewarded for their enthusiastic participation with gifts from Santa and me. 
クリスマスと関係ある単語を教えたり、ゲームをしたり、私が子どもの頃大好きだった絵本「Spot’s First Christmas（スポットの初クリスマス）」を読んだりしました。参加していただいた熱心な子ども達には、ご褒美としてサンタさんと私からのプレゼントを渡しました。

Finally, our monthly kindergarten visits included some Christmas-related activities. To add to the holiday cheer, I made a coloring page that fit the occasion. All of the children were so excited for the hand-made gift, their adorable voices calling out things such as “kawaii! (cute!)” or “yaritai! (I want to do it!)” as soon as I revealed it. The joy on their faces was honestly the best Christmas present I could ever ask for!
最後に、今月の幼稚園・保育園・認定こども園の訪問も、クリスマスがテーマの活動がありました。ホリデー気分を盛り上げるために、私はクリスマスにふさわしい塗り絵を作りました。子ども達は手作りのプレゼントに大喜び！塗り絵を見せた瞬間、はしゃいだ声で「やりたい！」や「可愛い！」と叫びました。子ども達が、喜んで笑っている顔が私にとって、最高のクリスマスプレゼントでした！
