みらいKIDSの英語体験・English Fun with MIRAI KIDS

Each year an exchange program called MIRAI KIDS is conducted with students from Date City and Kusatsu City of Shiga Prefecture. This year students from Kusatsu City visited Date City.
毎年、滋賀県にある草津市と伊達市との交流事業「MIRAI KIDS」が行われています。今年は草津市の生徒が伊達市を訪れました。

I was able to receive some time out of their busy schedule to conduct a game with using English words.
生徒たちの時間をいただいて、英単語を使ったゲームを実施することができました。

The game we played was one that I have been wanting to try out for a long time now, and was happy to finally see it in action. The game is sometimes referred to as the Chimera Game. In this game, the participants take turns drawing body parts of random animals in order to create a monster or what could be called a chimera. 
今回のゲームは以前からやってみたかったもので、ようやく行うことができて嬉しかったです。このゲームは「キメラゲーム」と呼ばれています。このゲームでは、参加者が交互にランダムな動物の体のパーツを描き、キメラ（いわゆるモンスター）を作ります。

First I began by going over the animals and body parts that the children would be drawing.
Many of the children already knew many of the animals so it was mostly just a review for them.
最初に、生徒たちが描く動物と体の部位を紹介しました。
すでに知っている動物も多かったので、ほとんど復習のようなものでした。

I put slips of paper with the words we reviewed inside bags and gave them to each team. They began to start their making their chimeras, which looked crazy and weird and in my opinion, the stranger they look, the more fun the game is.
僕は復習した単語を書いた紙を袋に入れ、各チームに配りました。ゲームが始まると、面白いキメラがだんだん見えてきました。見た目が面白いほどゲームは楽しいです。

Once each team completed their chimera, they gave it a name and presented it to the class. Each student said what part of the body they drew, and what animal it is from. Standing up in front of everyone and speaking English is nerve-wracking, but they all did a great job!
各チームがキメラを完成させると、名前をつけて皆さんに発表してもらいました。それぞれの生徒が、体のどの部分を描いたかと、何の動物からとったかを紹介しました。人の前に立って英語で話すのは緊張するものだと思いますが、皆さんはよく頑張りました！

Next year children from Date will visit Kusatsu City so we may not be able to enjoy English together with them in 2025, but we look forward to seeing them again in two years!
来年は伊達市の生徒が草津市を訪れるので、残念ながら一緒に英語を楽しむことはできませんが、2年後の再会を楽しみにしています！​
