月舘学園あかつき祭・Tsukidate Academy Play

In October I had the opportunity of seeing the school play at Tsukidate Academy. I had a great time last year and was excited to see them again this year. I will be reporting on the first two plays, which I had been able to see the students practicing in the weeks leading up to the play.
10月に月舘学園のあかつき祭を見に行きました。昨年初めて見に行った時はとてもよかったので、今年もまた見ることができるのを楽しみにしていました。今回は、発表までの数週間、生徒たちが練習しているのを見ることができた2つの発表について報告します。

The opening ceremony included a performance by the middle school brass band, where they played medley of popular anime songs. 
開祭宣言では、中学校の吹奏楽部による演奏があり、人気アニメソングのメドレーが演奏されました。

  Similar to last year, they also unveiled a beautiful large banner with art drawn by one of the students.
また、昨年同様、生徒が描いたビックアートがお披露目されました。

Then the plays began starting from the lowest grade levels first. The first play was performed by both the first and second grade elementary students, 
そして、低学年から順に発表が始まりました。最初の発表は、小学1年生と2年生による劇の発表でした。

In the play we are whisked away to a tropical island where disaster strikes. However thanks to the help of the visiting Tsukidate Academy students, the island is saved. 
この発表は、「月舘学園の生徒たちが災難に見舞われた南の島を訪れ、月舘学園の生徒たちのおかげで、島は救われた。」というストーリーでした。

The play was capped off with a celebratory Hawaiian-style song and dance.
発表の最後には、発表した生徒たちによるハワイアンスタイルの歌とダンスが披露されました。

The students did a fantastic job in their performance and in the making of their props and costumes!
生徒のみんなが頑張ったおかげでパフォーマンスも小道具や衣装も素敵でした！

The second play was performed by the third and fourth grade classes. It was a play based around the concept of The Sound of Music.
2つ目の発表は、3年生と4年生のクラスによる、『サウンド・オブ・ミュージック』をコンセプトにした劇の発表でした。

The story revolved around students from Tsukidate Academy teaching a class of von Trapp-esque students the joys of music. 
月舘学園の生徒たちが、フォン・トラップに音楽の楽しさを教えるというストーリーでした。

The von Trapp students are unaware of what a recorder is when the Tsukidate Academy students bring them out, making for a humorous moment when the von Trapp students guess wrongly as to what the recorders are.
「月舘学園の生徒たちがリコーダーを持ち出したとき、フォン・トラップはリコーダーが何なのか知りませんでした。

The Tsukidate students play their recorders.
月舘の生徒たちがリコーダーを演奏しました。

The von Trapp students enjoy playing the recorders themselves.
楽器の楽しさはフォン・トラップに届きました。」という内容でした。

For their next performance, all the children displayed their skill with various instruments.
次のパフォーマンスでは、子どもたち全員が様々な楽器で演奏しました。

To conclude their play, the students all performed the Japanese version of the Do-Re-Mi song from The Sound of Music. （ドレミの歌）
発表の最後には、生徒たちみんなで「ドレミの歌」を歌いました。

Being able to see the progress all the students made from their practices that I watched until the actual performance was a lot of fun, and they even allowed me the chance to give feedback on their performance. I have enjoyed helping these students learn English and it was rewarding to see them work hard in other areas as well. 
I am excited to see their next performance!
練習から本番まで見て、いつも一緒に英語を勉強してくれている生徒たちが英語以外のことにも頑張っているのを見ることができてうれしかったです。
次回の発表も楽しみです！
