Trivia Night・トリビアナイト

I lead my first event, Trivia Night, since beginning this role of CIR. It took a lot of planning and leading up to the event I thought I would die from anxiety, but it ended up being a really fun time thanks to the team I work with as well as the friends and community that came  out to support me.

伊達市の国際交流員になってから初めてのイベントであるトリビアナイトを開催しました。イベントの準備には多くの計画が必要で、準備から当日までの間はとても不安でしたが、協働まちづくり課で一緒に働いている仲間や応援してくれた友人のおかげで、本当に楽しい時間を過ごすことができました。

Saying I feel a lack of confidence with public speaking is not an understatement. My nerves make me tense up and my mind goes blank. For this reason, I had a script to help me through. If nothing else, it was like a comfort blanket and gave me huge peace of mind.  

私は公の場で話すのが苦手です。緊張すると体が硬くなり、頭が真っ白になってしまいます。そのため、台本を用意しておきました。それは、何よりも安心感を与えてくれる「安心毛布」のようなものでした。

Participants in attendance represented nine different countries; Japan, U.S.A., China, Taiwan, Jamaica, England, Holland, South Africa, and Canada. I felt so proud to host such an international event here in Date!

参加者は日本、アメリカ、中国、台湾、ジャマイカ、イギリス、オランダ、南アフリカ、カナダの9か国と様々な国の方が参加してくれました。このような国際的なイベントを伊達市で開催できたことをとても誇りに思います！

Abroad, trivia nights are typically held in bars and are really fun to participate in when out drinking with friends. Lara (my predecessor) originally pitched this trivia night plan way back when and I am so happy she did. It is a great multi-generational (this time was ages 4 to 60+) event and the breakdown of Japanese versus non-Japanese participants makes it a truly meaningful exchange opportunity.

海外では、トリビアナイトというイベントは通常バーで開催され、友人と飲みながら参加するのがとても楽しいです。私の前任者のララさんがこのトリビアナイトの計画を提案してくれたのはずっと前のことですが、とても感謝しています。今回は4歳から60歳以上までの多世代のイベントで、日本人と外国人との参加者の割合もあり、非常に意義のある交流イベントとなりました。

The game has 40 questions total taking place over four rounds. There are two categories per round; for example, Pop Culture and Science. We tried a Music category for the first time and participants really seemed to enjoy it. 

ゲームは合計40問で、4ラウンドに分かれて行います。各ラウンドには2つのカテゴリーがあり、例えばポップカルチャーや科学などです。今回は初めて音楽のカテゴリーを試みましたが、参加者は本当に楽しんでくれたようです。

Two teams tied for first place and we needed to do a final tie breaker question. There were actually three teams that were so close! The winning team went home with Date made products such as soy sauce, rice crackers, strawberry cider and apples. Lucky them! Hope to see more new faces join us at the next trivia night. 2チームが同点で1位となり、最終的なタイブレーカーの質問を行う必要がありました。優勝したチームは、伊達で作られた製品（醤油、米菓、いちごサイダー、リンゴなど）を景品としてもらいました。彼らはラッキーですね！次回のトリビアナイトには、もっと多くの新しい顔が参加してくれることを期待しています。ぜひ来てください！
