クリスマスオーナメント作り・Making Christmas Ornaments

This past holiday season we conducted an event where we made Christmas ornaments with children and parents of Date City.
12月に、私たち国際交流員は伊達市の子供たちや親たちと一緒にクリスマスのオーナメントを作るイベントを開催しました。​

Yvonne had prepared the basic design of the ornament by gluing 3 pieces of wood together to make a tree shape.
イボンヌが、接着剤を使って木でクリスマスツリーの形をしたオーナメントを用意してくれました。​

Each child picked their favorite tree design and began decorating it with string and other small decorative items. 
子どもたちはそれぞれ好きなデザインのツリーを選び、紐や小物で飾りつけを始めました。

While we did show an example, it was interesting to see that everyone had their own way of decorating their ornament.
一例を紹介したが、オーナメントの飾り方は人それぞれで興味深かったです。​

The children who needed more supplies did their best asking us for more in English.
もっと紐が必要な子どもたちは、頑張って英語で聞きに来てくれました。

Towards the end of the event we read an English picture book about how Santa delivers presents. 
イベントの終盤には、サンタがプレゼントを届けるためにどのように家に入るかというテーマの英語の絵本を読んであげました。​

Lastly, we passed out papers with the lyrics of Jingle Bells on them and sung together with everyone.
最後に、ジングルベルの英語の歌詞を書いた紙を配り、みんなで歌いました。​

Making ornaments is something we often did at school in America and I was happy to do that with the children here in Date City. We plan on doing another Christmas event next year so please consider participating!
オーナメント作りは、アメリカの学校でもよくやっていたことで、伊達市の子どもたちと一緒にできて嬉しかったです！またクリスマスイベントを予定していますので、ぜひ参加してみてください！​
