Community Kitchens こどもの食堂

I recently learned about Community Kitchens and was excited to visit the very first one to open here in Date City seven years ago. It is located at the Fureai Center in Hobara and operates on the first, third and fifth Saturdays each month from 11時30分AM.

最近、「こども食堂」ということについて知り、7年前に伊達市で初めてオープンした場所を訪れました。今回訪れたのは、保原町のふれあいセンターの「みんなの食堂「ふぁみり～」」でした。毎月第1、第3、第5土曜日の11時30分から営業しています。

When entering, there is a sign with that day’s menu displayed. I felt so thankful to see there was also a public bath available. In the U.S., we have a similar place called a soup kitchen, but showers are much harder to find.  

中に入ると、その日のメニューが書かれた看板が出迎えてくれます。そしてなんと、浴場もあって、とてもありがたく感じました。アメリカにも「スープキッチン」と呼ばれる似たような場所がありますが、シャワーを浴びることができるところは少ないです。

Here’s what the homemade lunch looked like. That day was tuna rice, delicious stewed vegetables, miso soup with daikon radish, and pickles. The tables were all thoughtfully decorated with fresh flowers.

この日のお昼ごはんは、手作りのツナごはん、おいし～い煮物、大根入りのお味噌汁、そしてお漬物でした。テーブルには生花が飾られていて、細やかな気配りが感じられました。

The founder, Keiko, said she originally made an effort to open Community Kitchen after noticing a child in her neighborhood that she knew didn’t have proper access to food. She knew there were others out there and it made her heart ache. She wanted to do whatever she could to help.

創設者のけいこさんは、近所に食事に困っている子どもがいることに気づき、他にも同じような状況の人がいると感じ、胸が痛んだと話してくれました。何かできることをしたいという思いから、このみんなの食堂を始めたそうです。

And, truly everyone is welcome! Elderly that may be feeling lonely, kids visiting with a caregiver, elementary school kids on their own, they can all come together here.

ここは、本当に誰でも歓迎される場所です。孤独を感じる高齢の方、保護者と一緒に来る子どもたち、小学生同士でくる子供たちなど、みんなの居場所です。​

I’m so proud that Date has several Community Kitchens. If you’re in a pinch or looking for community, this is a wonderful resource to be able to head to. The cost for a meal is 300 yen for adults and 100 yen for kids. And, kids are welcome even by themselves!

I’m really glad I visited there.

伊達市には他にも複数の「こども食堂」があるようです。私はとても誇りに思います。もし色んなことで困っているときや人の温かさのようなものを感じたいときは、ぜひ利用してほしい素晴らしい場所です。食事代は大人300円、子どもは100円です。そして子ども同士で行っても問題ないです！

「みんなの食堂「ふぁみり～」」を訪問することが出来、嬉しかったです。
